Hello, my dear Watchers.
That´s an opinion Journal about the Danny Phantom fandom. :'D With an opinion paragraph from PrincessMon and kamillyanna!

What´s allowed to draw as Danny Phantom Fan?
In deviantART was a time about "fan art is forbidden to submit" it doesn´t because a real rule! It was just in the american government news (as I heard). But they haven´t made it a law yet. :B
I thought about messaging Butch Hartman if we are allowed to draw fan art, because of this government news. Well duh, of course we are allowed to draw fan art. But I just wanted a message to show when someone say something silly (at most the government) that fan art isn´t allowed to draw.
But Butch said "pornographic and inappropriate" he doesn´t like to see.
Message here (a zoomed text part, Photobucket made my screenshot so small that all is hard to read): i731.photobucket.com/albums/ww…
From this screenshot: i731.photobucket.com/albums/ww…

Please respect his message. D':
We are allowed to draw fan art, just not that. It is a kid show and porn isn´t for kids.

Now about

Fanbased Characters and Mary sues.
Why you guys complain about every mary sue you see?! I also don´t like them like you guys do! BUT I IGNORE THEM. D':
I´m almost 5 years in DeviantART and THIS complains I never saw before. 2 till 3 years long in my time as member of deviantART I never saw anyone talking about MARY SUES.
Just make this clear.
:pointr: When you don´t like a drawing and comment mean, the artist will know you don´t like this drawing. But you just start a dispute.
:pointr: But when you don´t like a drawing and just IGNORE THEM, the artist will find out that you don´t like it, too! WITHOUT A DISPUTE.

You aren´t the creator at all. You don´t choose how the characters should be. Please don´t comment on every mary sue "stupid mary sue" or so.

And that goes perfectly into the topic fanbased characters.
The Danny Phantom fandom is the very first fandom I have seen where admins of a group choose which are the good DP OCs. :'D
Anyways, the creator choose if the Character is a good DP Fan Character or not. We don´t need a group for it and admins who choose the good DP FCs. It also works perfectly without it.
When someone submit a DP FC and want your opinions, there you go. Comment what you like and don´t like.
There everyone can tell their opinions, too, not only admins in a group.
And when the artist don´t want an opinion then just ignore this Fan Character, when you don´t like this character.

I´m sorry when this journal hurts the admins feeling. D': That´s just my opinion.

Anyways, THAT DP FANDOM. Isn´t for SHIPPING WARS. WHO CARES WHO SHIP WHAT. D: It is THEIR choose. THEIR interests. Don´t fright about that little thing! Don´t :+fav: art about this shipping and don´t comment a weird comment about it, too. Just ignore this, when you hate this shipping so much. But don´t hurt the artists only because they love an other shipping as you do.

Thanks for the reading.... :'D
And sorry for the grammar, when there was some grammar troubles.

PrincessMons opinion paragraph

Hello there my lovely friends.

Before anything else. This is an opinion paragraph I wanted to write. ciiu and I came up with this topic out of nowhere while we chatted recently and well, I wanted to collab in this journal. Shall I begin with my silly opinion/rant paragraphs? Mon will speak now~

I remember when I joined deviantART back in 2009. I started using my account on 2010, the year where everything messed up in the DP fandom. I remember seeing those cool just-for-fun DP fan characters. Jen Terror by DreamersGirl92, Jennifer Morton by JennPhantom, rune-faire's  and HamsterParade's awesome DP artworks. What happened now guys? To be in this fandom with a halfa FC is practically a nightmare for some people. You have to follow certain rules to be in the cool gang of DP FCs. (They're not OCs, and people often mix both terms. Remember, OC stands for Original Character. FC means Fan Character.) This one is the only fandom that I've seen (to the day) that's quite strict with fan characters.  And yeah, I'll admit I've got one of my FCs in one of those strict-about-characters groups, but I've never put that much effort on it like some other people have and yes I am aware that I've pointed out to some people DUDE UR CHARA IS A MARY SUE HURR HURR but pff.

However, what's the point in my words? I'd like to have my question answered nicely. No bashing, I beg you. :stare:

What's the need in helping others to create a fan character properly without the treats and cliches of a Mary Sue (according to the rules of some people)? Fan characters are done just for fun, guys! I've seen a whole bunch dArama caused by one simple FC and even a forum topic on how somebody's trying to make an OC and how it annoys certain people. Seriously? Fandoms are supposed to be about having fun with others who share the same likes as you! Not about scaring the hell out of newbies to fandoms. :|

Yeah sure, critiques are always great and helps people improve their characters! But I mean, from my POV, this is how it happens (about 8 months after I joined the fandom).
A new DPFC is submitted on deviantART. She wears a black/whiite/gray jumpsuit. ERGMEHGERD NO. HUR DESIGN IS 2 CLICHEEE. She's paired up with Danny/is Danny's teammate. ERGHMEHGERD NO. DAT'S WUT A MARYSUE WOOD DO. There's 2 options. If the character looks like you can't do absolutely anything to improve the character and looks like a Mary Sue, it's submitted into the Horrendous Halfas blog on Tumblr. On the other hand, if it looks fairly good, people start to point out the character's flaws to help the person improve their chara. If person ignores any kind critique and does what he/she (commonly, she) wants with their character, then bam, the person's practically hated/disliked for the rest of her life in this website.

Who gives a daaaamn if they're well-done characters or silly Mary-Sues? 8D

Where's the fun? I love drawing my super-silly-and-Mary-Sueish self inserts in almost every fandom I like (Hey, it's fun messing up with the characters most of the time.), but to be honest, I used to be scared of submitting my halfa!self into the DP fandom. I was afraid that I would get an uber-long comment on how my design looked like another fully-cliched-halfa (Long comments scare me, hurr hurr). And let's not even mention the famous shipping wars.
DP AND OCS 5EVAR. NO UR WRONG. DP AND SAM 6EVAR. NO. FUCK YOU GUYS. DP AND VLAD 7EVER. It's ridiculous to see people hating others just because of their likes, thoughts and opinions.

Oh well, what can I do? I'm just another deviant ranting about this topic. Mon officially dislikes the fandom but still draws the DP style. Oh irony.

But screw what I just said, in short words, let's bring back the fun in the fandom!

kamillyannas opinion paragraph

Yo guys! Yeah Kami decided to bech and join in on this, because i feel the need to. it makes sence.

Again, my opinion on Mary Sues: who gives? why does it matter if an FC is a sue? since when should we crush someones fun!? Not like a persons sue is hurting you, why get all tangled up in the mess then? like, really. dont you think its enough that someone loves a show so much they decided to show it in their own fun character?
Same with Danny and FC pairings, why flame guys!? An FC IS MADE UUUUUUUUP, DP is done, not like the real show will change. It has a Danny x Sam ending, i remember when i was so smug about that, but i kinda grown out of this fandom too, I'm in it for the FUN of having a FC. why do you think i dont like Denesse anymore? *SHOT* cuz i realized not like i can change anything that already happened.
But dont be confused! I'm not saying stop making FCs to pair with Danny, i'm saying when you see DxS or whatever other pairing thats not with a FC or YOUR FC dont flame. you cant change the cannon facts, so enjoy your fun, pair your fc as much as you want :) just dont hurt others and dont feel like your the only one thats right in this world.

I kinda moved out of the fandom for this reason, everyone over reacts. (i like hetalia because theres lots of pairings and fans try to be calm cuz its mostly technically historically cannon but even i have troubles with some shippings but who cares i cant change reality i can only state my honest opinion) And i think that people shouldnt be being such joy killers by being all UR OC IS A SUE OMG. STOP ET STOP PAIRING HER AND DANNY. NO. NO CUZ SHES A SUE. NO.. and i just looooove how who ever says such things doesnt care about the person their talking to. everyone has feelings, why dont you respect that, you can really hurt someone by saying such. Sue or not, a fan has all rights to shine their character and NOT be flamed at. dont you think? What if you had a kid, a real one, and someone said 'she/he is so annoyingly perfect they shouldnt be in this world'. Hurts, dont you think? Why would you say that? You wouldnt in the real world, so why do it online? Yeah i thought so.

And if someone decides to flame out why does it matter? Blocking someone, an easy answer to harassment. Your FC gets called a sue? Block the person, a lot safer then starting FAN WARS.

Heck, i LOVE FCs! their so fun, but i like that because i hope i can state my opinion by pairing him/her with a cannon and not be flamed at, because we're all right in our own way. Just because i like Cannon x OC doesnt mean its the only thing i will support and back up, i used to go nuts over other stuff that didnt correspond wih my opinion but now i moved on, i realized THAT WAS SO STUPID OF ME so im telling you, think deaper, maybe what your saying can hurt someone. BAD. dont you people know, "If you dont have anything nice to say, dont say anything at all". I know that sounds cliche but just dont say it, think it ALL you want, nobody is stopping you, but words are a powerful thing, since when do they NOT hurt?

I love you all, we're all fans and deserve to be able to be fans without being shunned because of silly factors. I'll be a friend of a sue-maker all i want cuz they could be a great person :)

Peace!~ Kamster.

Angelus-Ashs opinion paragraph:

Long time no see, Danny Phantom fandom.

You people are a resilient bunch - the cartoon has been off the air for five years and yet you all still bicker like that time has hardly even passed. Remember how ridiculious it was back then, with the shipping war and all? True Fan vs. Anti Fan, conservative bigots at their best trying to censor the entire fandom until only they were happy. Five years later and as much as this fandom has majorly decreased in size and changed, there's still drama, a lot of drama to be honest. And you know what? It's all about pointless shit.

Let's go back a bit. I've been out of the fandom for a long while (but keeping track) so you might not know me. I joined this fandom in 2005 through the DP message boards at nick.com. I wasn't too active but I got the point and all the news going around, I posted my shit fan fiction with my self insert like every other eleven year old just beginning to become exposed to fandom did. I didn't join deviantART and the main fandom until 2007 at the tender age of twelve. To be honest, I really enjoyed the fandom then - I wasn't at all popular but every once and a while when my art got a comment or two or even a favourite, I connected to the lovely people of the fandom. Now I know that DPFCs weren't as big then as they are now, but I did have my own. Granted, she was based off myself and grew from one of those god-awful fan fictions I wrote for the message boards and was purely for fun, but that's not the point. I didn't have popular artists like cindre or jenn comment on my art and say how my character wasn't good enough how I had to abide by their rules of what a good fan character is. They didn't say, "Oh well you have to change this and this and this because I'm popular and I say so." I got compliments and a bit of critique on my FC, and that was cool - and as time went on I changed her on my own. In 2009 I began to get noticed a bit, and Ashley Phantom slowly yet surely became who you may or may not know as Amy Meyers/Specter. If you were in the fandom then, you might've known of my FC - silver hair, black jumpsuit with some purple accents, nothing special but enough to get me recognized then. I began climbing up the social hierarchy of the DP fandom, becoming friends (not exactly on an equal basis, but still) with some of the most popular artists in the fandom (I bet you know who they are).

That's when I started getting an awful lot of uuum...critique, if you will. It wasn't as much critique as it was senseless pestering. They would give you advice, even then kiddos, and if you didn't follow it then you were and still are today enemy #1. It annoyed me, it really did. At first I thought it was cool that they were trying to help, but then I realized that they were turning my character, my creation into something of their own, and that was not cool and never is. They were molding my character into another carbon copy of their "perfect DPFC formula", which is still used now and to be honest only creates an unoriginal piece of shit instead of something remotely interesting. Critiquing can be a good thing, but if you rip apart the entire character like it's some piece of meat, then you're doing it wrong. And if they don't listen to you and you resort to humiliating them through a tumblr blog, then you're only being an idiot and wasting your time. I've seen "Horrendeous Halfas", it's the worst blog I have had the misfortune of reading through. You could at least try. Instead of finding a younger fan's work, who's starting out like all of us did (and that is totally okay!) and putting it on the blog only to say, "LOL THIS SUX LOOK AT DAT PIECE OF SHET SUCH A SUEEEE LOL U SUK" then there's a problem. Does anyone have a right to do that? No. Should they be wasting their time by going through a younger fan's gallery only to "critique" their character to bits. No.

Now to those humble younger fans in the middle of this, all I ask is to take critique with a grain of salt - hell, the entire package. Remember that this is your character and you can not feel pressured by what the popular artists say. You do whatever you want with your characters and be creative! It's only a cartoon after all, so have fun! Isn't that the point of fandom and creating characters - to have fun? That's exactly what we've all forgotten.

To those who critique, stop and review. Your characters aren't that great either. You're not on some golden pedistal that gives you the right to come along and make your opinion on FCs law in the fandom. And you certainly don't have the right to make HORRENDOUS blogs that take beginner's FCs and ignorantly state how much they're awful in your opinion - your blog is nothing like phantomsues was anyways, at least they gave pointers instead of simply saying that all the FCs in the fandom but yours suck. Because it's your opinion, that's it. And your opinion isn't fact nor law, so keep it to yourself because you know what? No one give a damn. No one cares if you don't like their character, and no one cares that you're so uber popular in this tiny tiny little fandom. Because that's what it's become, and if you plan on keeping this fandom together, you need to get your act together.

Let's move on. I haven't been in the DP fandom for over two years now - I'm consumed and highly active in the Supernatural fandom, which is incredibly large, well known and full of ships. One of the most popular ships in the fandom is incest (wincest), and people are still respect those who ship it. While over here if you don't ship something you have to explain to the world in paragraphs why you absolutely despise that ship because it totally matters. I shall repeat myself from the last section - no one cares. If you ship something, cool. If you don't ship something, that's also cool. But bitching about it won't do anything but embaress yourself.

Oh, one last thing. As someone who creates her own characters for her own story (in the form of a tv screenplay) and really tries to make her characters as original and creative as possible, please know the difference between an FC and an OC, because your halfa is not an OC. FC stands for "fan character", which means that the character is based off of someone else's creation (e.g. a movie/tv show/cartoon/anime etc.) and is not entirely your own original creation. OC stands for "original character", which means that the character is based in a story and/or universe that you create and is not based off of a cartoon/anime/movie etc. Please get it right.

So basically:
-Create your own FCs the way you want them to be without too much influence.
-Critique should not be hurtful, and you certainly should not be mad if the person who's FC you are critiquing (or bashing) does not take your suggestions.
-Don't bash characters, and don't make blogs to bash characters because that's being an dick, and no one likes an dick.
-If you're "popular", that doesn't mean that you have any right to force your opinions and values per se on FCs of younger fans.
-Creating FCs is for fun, take a chill pill!
-Your halfa is not an OC.
-Respect people's ships, and keep your opinion about said ships to yourself because no one cares.

Thank you,

an ex-phan
